What is farm management software?
By Farm Management Software we refer to software that collects, synthesizes and analyzes data on farm business processes like planning, budgeting, cost and inventory management, marketing, etc. Farm management software should help you run your farm more efficiently and more profitably.
You’re in San Francisco. How do you know farming?
The members of our leadership team have both personal and professional ties to agriculture (read their bios). Members of our Industry Advisory Board lead some of the country’s best farms, and they are very involved with the direction of our company. Most importantly, we continuously collaborate with our customers to make sure we’re improving the platform with farmers’ needs in mind. Our Customer Success and Sales team members are located all across the US, in Canada and Australia, and have agricultural experience. But having some of our functions in San Francisco also means we have access to the best software developers and latest technology.
What kind of farms benefit from using Granular Business? Is it designed for large farms only?

How does Granular Business benefit different members of my team?

Does Granular Business replace my accounting software?
You should continue using your accounting software for enterprise-level historic accounting in conjunction with an ag-focused, forward-looking program like Granular for managerial accounting.
How does Granular Business sync with my accounting software?
By layering Granular Business data into your financial statement (and layering accounting data into your Granular Business budget and P&L), you can ensure your historic financial statements, annual budget, and projected P&L’s are as accurate, timely, and standards-based as possible.
Granular Business can sync with Quickbooks Online for overhead or fixed costs in a single entity to maintain a more up-to-date and accurate look at current profitability across your operation. We recommend continuing to use your accounting software for day to day transactions and annual financial statements, but refer to Granular Business for an understanding of where you’re projected to be financially at the end of the year at any point in time.
What is farm business software?

This means you are better positioned to secure low-cost funding from lenders, generate accurate landowner statements, and perform higher-quality internal analysis.
Syncing Granular Business with your accounting software also means you’ll streamline your AR/AP process – you avoid double data entry and you ensure errors are caught immediately.
What crop types do you support?
Granular Business currently fully supports the workflows associated with most major row crops, and many of those associated with certain specialty crops. Chances are we work with what you grow on your farm. Please contact us to make sure we support your specific crop mix.
How much is Granular Business?
Granular Business is priced as an annual subscription based on crop mix and farm size. Contact us to get a specific quote for your operation.
How many employees can use Granular Business?
There is no limit on the number of Granular Business users on your account (which includes access to both the desktop and mobile applications). You can also give access to suppliers or any partners that accomplish tasks on your farm – it’s up to you.
When is the best time to implement Granular Business?
There is no perfect time to implement Granular Business, but the sooner you do, the sooner you’ll be able to run your operation more efficiently – and you’ll start to notice real benefits very quickly. We find that most of our customers decide to implement Granular Business immediately to develop a competitive advantage in the near future.
How long will it take to get up and running on Granular Business?
Most customer teams are up and running on Granular Business within a few days. Once a customer is ready to implement the software, our Customer Success team schedules a series of virtual meetings to set up the software, and an on-site training to make sure the whole team is ready to use Granular Business every day.
Who on my farm has access to Granular Business data and app?
That’s up to you. You select who uses Granular Business on your farm. You can also set different permission levels individually, so you decide what kind of data members of your team have access to.
How often do I need to update the Granular Business desktop and mobile apps?
Granular Business is a cloud-based software, which means you don’t have to download new versions every time we make an update – any new features will be automatically accessible the next time you login on your desktop computer. Your mobile app will also automatically update if you have that setting turned on, or you will get a prompt on your next login.
Do I need a dedicated employee to manage Granular Business?
No, quite the opposite – Granular Business makes running your farm easier, not more complicated. Our customers have found that using Granular Business gives them more time to focus on what matters most – operating their farm.
What devices does Granular Business work on?
The Granular Business web app works on all computers (PC and Mac), and the mobile app works on most Apple and Android smartphones and tablets. Contact us for device specification.
Do I need strong cellular coverage for Granular Business to work on my farm?
Granular Business does use a cellular or wifi connection to transmit data from your phone to our servers. However, you don’t need coverage throughout your entire farm – our mobile app will capture data when entered by operators and sync with the web app whenever a wireless connection is re-established.
Where is your Customer Success team? How can I access them?
Our Customer Success team is located across the United States, Canada and Australia. As a customer, you’ll have a dedicated Customer Success Manager. You’ll also have access to customer support via chat and phone support (live support is available M-F, 8am – 7pm CT). We’ve also recently redesigned our Help Center, where you can access product FAQs, video tutorials and webinars at your convenience.

How often do you release new features?
We usually release new features several times a month. Customers are alerted to what features and functionalities have been launched.
How will my data be used?
Your Data will be used as part of the analysis we do for decision support within the farm business software, as well as to improve our products and services going forward. Your data may also be reviewed by our customer success team to help you improve usage of the product to get more value, and by our product development team to identify software bugs or areas of improvement.
We may also use your data to inform you of potential products of interest, but you can opt out of these communications at any time. Moreover, we will respect your request if you already chose to opt out of marketing communications from our affiliates, such as Corteva Agriscience.
We will not use your data for any other purpose unless you give us consent, except when we are legally required to or to protect our legal rights. For example, we will not sell your data or use it to help seed or other inputs manufacturers price seed or inputs or sell them to you.
Do I own the data that I put into Granular Business?
Yes. As stated in the SSA, “You shall own and retain all right, title and interest in and to your data.” your data remains yours after you provide it to us. If you authorize us to share your data with other precision agriculture service providers, we presume that you own your data.
Who will have access to my data?
Your data will be accessible by our product development and customer success teams for the purposes outlined above. Neither Granular, nor Corteva Agriscience sales reps will have access to any individual customer data unless the customer chooses to grant them access.
In certain circumstances other individuals may have access to your data, but only if a customer explicitly grants them access to their Granular Business account or authorizing them to use it.
Will you sell my data? What about my financial data in particular?
No. We will not sell your data to any Third Parties. We may use Aggregate Data that is derived from your data to create value internally or with Third Parties in the future, primarily in the form of analysis to improve products and services.
In the case of financial data, we will never sell or share your data or Aggregate Data containing financial data with any Third Parties due to its highly sensitive nature.
As Granular is owned by Corteva Agriscience, will my data be used for seed or crop input pricing decisions?
No. As outlined in our SSA, your data will not be used to help Corteva Agriscience inform seed and crop input pricing decisions. This applies to both your data and Aggregate Data.
Will my data be used by Corteva Agriscience to sell me seed or chemicals?
We may also use your data to inform you of potential products or services of interest, but you can opt out of marketing communications at any time. Moreover, we will respect your request if you already chose to opt out of marketing communications from our affiliates, such as Corteva Agriscience.
To which Granular products does the policy apply?
Our Software Services Agreement (SSA) and data privacy commitments reflected in it apply only to Granular Business.
To what data does the policy apply?
The policy applies to any information that you put into Granular Business, to which we would otherwise not have access. This includes personal, operational, agronomic, and financial data you provide to us when you purchase, implement, and use any Granular products. This includes, for example:
Data including your operation’s name, your name, e-mail, credit card number, etc.;
Data generated from the farming equipment you own or lease, soil information, plans or actuals related to sowing, product application, scouting, irrigation, harvesting and other activities, including what products are used, which tasks are done when, and by whom, etc.; and Data including your financial statements, such as Profit and Loss accounts, Balance Sheet, etc.
How do I know my data is secure?
All traffic and data in Granular Business is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS). This is the same level of encryption and security used in online banking applications and transactions.
Can I get a copy of my data if I leave Granular?
Yes. You will have 30 days after terminating your subscription to request to have a copy of your data sent to you. To do so, email [email protected] with a request and we will send you all of your data that we can extract from the system within three months after the request.
Can I delete my data from Granular Business if I leave?
Yes. You will have 30 days after terminating your subscription to request to have your data deleted. We will have three months from the request to delete all personally identifiable information associated with your data, as we will be unable to extract the underlying metadata from our models and learnings that resulted.
For example, if there is data that associates a given yield with combination of seeds and crop inputs in 2016, that combination of data may be retained within an agronomic model to support future decision analysis. However, we will not know where that data came from as all identifying information would be deleted upon request.
Can I share my data from Granular Business with other precision agriculture companies?
Yes. We are developing Granular software to allow you to extract your data at any time and send it to another service provider.
Which industry data alliances do you participate in and what industry standards do you align to?
Granular is part of the Open Ag Data Alliance (OADA) and AgGateway, and we adhere to the Farm Bureau Privacy Principles.

By developing web and mobile apps grounded in advanced data science technology, we deliver unmatched operational, financial and agronomic information that farmers around the world can depend on to improve their efficiency, teamwork and profitability.
We currently support more than 12.5 million hectares, consisting of 88 different crops in four countries (and growing.) In 2017 we joined forces with DuPont Pioneer, merging our strong financial and business software with the robust agronomy expertise and advisory services of DuPont Pioneer. In February 2018, after merging with Dow, DowDuPont™ announced a spin-off of the the agriculture division, naming the new agriculture company, Corteva Agriscience™. We are an independent subsidiary of Corteva and responsible for all software and analytics products.
What is Granular Insights?
Granular Insights is just getting started, with valuable Directed Monitoring features coming soon that will take the guesswork out of monitoring. Granular Insights is an easy-to-use tool that will help growers save time, increase yields, and maximize profits. Growers can proactively monitor crop progress and collaborate seamlessly with partners to make timely data-driven management decisions from the palm of their hand. Granular Insights is available for both desktop and mobile use, with a dedicated mobile app with an offline imagery option for both iOS and Android.
How does the Vegetation Index work?
Growing plants absorb blue and red light and then reflect green light, which is why they appear green to the human eye. Plants also reflect near-infrared (NIR) light, but it’s invisible to the human eye. The healthier the plant, the more NIR light reflected. When a plant becomes stressed, its leaves reflect less NIR light. Wide Dynamic Range Vegetation Index, or WDRVI, measures the difference between red and near-infrared light bands reflecting off vegetation in the paddock to assess the amount of chlorophyll that is present and active in the plant at any given time up to three times more accurately than NDVI. This analysis is the basis of the Vegetation Index in Granular Insights.
What is the difference between NDVI and WDRVI?
Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, or NDVI, is commonly used in agriculture to quantify vegetation by measuring levels of near-infrared and red light.
Wide Dynamic Range Vegetation Index, or WDRVI, works by similarly measuring levels of near-infrared and red light but is at least three times more accurate than NDVI because it is able to pick up on subtle differences in the crop canopy in moderate-to-high vegetation density, which is especially important for crops with dense canopies and mature crops.
How is Granular Insights different than other satellite imagery providers?
Granular Insights is a leader in satellite imagery because of the frequency and resolution of the images provided. Our imagery has a consistent ~3 meter resolution, meaning that every image you receive is clear and actionable.
What crops does Granular Insights work with?
Granular Insights currently supports over 130 crops, from row crops to specialty crops, and that list continues to grow. Granular Insights tools driven by satellite imagery will work best for canopy crops with vegetative and reproductive stages that follow a standard green up and dry down pattern, including but not limited to: alfalfa, almonds, canola, corn, cotton, lentils, potatoes, rice, sorghum, soybeans, sunflowers, and wheat.
What is the maximum number of users that can be added to my operation in Granular Insights, and what will they see when I invite them?
You can add an unlimited number of people to your operation and control their level of access by specifying a role for each individual: View, Editor or Admin.
- Viewers can view paddocks only
- Editors can view, edit, and add paddocks
- Admins can view, edit and add paddocks as well as manage operation settings
How long will it take to get access to images after I sign up?
Granular Insights uses images captured from the world’s largest constellation of satellites at ~3m resolution imagery between 10AM and 2PM local time to take advantage of peak sun angle and deliver only the highest quality images. It can take up to 48 hours for those images to become available in Granular Insights, and our team is working tirelessly to reduce image processing time.
What devices does Granular Insights work on?
Granular Insights is available on web-enabled phones and devices and as a dedicated mobile app that can be downloaded via Google Play or the Apple App Store. You can also access Granular Insights from the web browser on your desktop computer.
Take your imagery with you wherever you go to streamline your in-paddock monitoring efforts without internet connectivity or cellular reception on the Granular Insights mobile app if you enable the Offline Paddocks setting.
What internet browsers are supported by Granular Insights?
Granular Insights is currently supported on the following browsers.

How many images do I get per week?
You can expect near-daily images from Granular Insights, depending on cloud coverage and weather conditions. Multiple images are captured daily and processed through several algorithms to ensure only the highest quality images are delivered to you, and if an image has greater than 5% cloud coverage, it will be identified in the app alongside a cloud icon.
How does the cloud detection work?
Granular Insights utilizes a robust algorithm to identify cloud coverage in images, and images with greater than 5% are identified in the app alongside a cloud icon. In some cases, you may notice gaps in imagery on days when the cloud cover is so significant that it prevents the satellite imagery data from being processed, simply because these types of images are all white and have no functional value. Otherwise, you will have access to all the imagery that was processed for your paddocks.
Can Granular Insights be used without an internet connection or cellular reception?
Yes. When heading into areas of no or very low internet connectivity and cellular reception, you can use the Granular Insights mobile app to download and view up to 60 days of paddock imagery from your paddock on your phone, even without cellular service or access to the internet.
How often do you release new features?
Our team is continuously working on improvements driven by customer feedback and requests. You can expect regular releases with new or updated features along with clear communications so you know exactly what is changing.

How will my personal information be used?
Your personal information, which is any information that identifies you as an individual, will be used to provide the services and products you request. For example, this may include analysis we do for decision support, to fulfill requests, or to provide administrative information. We may also use your personal information for certain business purposes, such as to improve our products and services going forward. Your personal information may also be reviewed by our Customer Success team to help you improve usage of the product to get more value, and by our Product Development team to identify software bugs or areas of improvement.
We may also use your personal information to inform you of potential products or opportunities of interest, but you can opt out of marketing communications at any time by emailing us at [email protected].
We will not use your personal information for any other purpose unless you give us consent, except when we are legally required to or to protect our legal rights. Do I own the personal information that I put into Granular Insights?

Neither Granular, nor Corteva Agriscience sales reps will have access to your financial information or sensitive information like personal identification numbers or passwords unless the customer chooses to grant them access.
In certain circumstances other individuals may have access to your information, but only if a customer explicitly grants them access to their Granular software account or authorizes them to use it.
We may disclose your information to third party service providers to help us provide services. Examples of these may include web-hosting service providers or retailers, collaborators to help us improve our products, financial institutions to apply for credit for our products, or to sponsors of sweepstakes or other promotions.
Will you sell my personal information?
No. We will not sell your personal Information to any third parties. We may use aggregated information that is derived from your information to create value internally or with third parties in the future, primarily in the form of analysis to improve products and services.
We will never sell or share your financial information or aggregated data containing financial data with any third parties due to its highly sensitive nature.

When are images of my paddock taken and are they taken at the same time each day?
Granular Insights is constantly acquiring images from the world’s largest constellation of satellites at ~3m resolution. Occasionally, multiple images of the same paddock are captured in the same day. When this happens, the images are filtered and the image with the least amount of cloud cover and closest to the peak sun angle at noon is displayed to deliver only the highest quality images.
